Its old capital of Goa situated just 10 km from Panaji. You can visit here by bus or rented bike or cab.Duration of stay would depend on your interest. It got many old purteges building and church well maintained.Main attraction is Basilica bom jesus. There are many other churches were you can visit. There are few shops selling snacks and sovenior items too.
Scenic Beauty. The way to Old goa from Panjim was really awesome. I would prefer better rent a scooty and go. You'll enjoy it like anything. Also it has one of the most beatiful Church. This is also a must go place.
There are 3 churches located in Old Goa - it is a bit off from the road between Madgaon and Panaji. Has majestic churches with a big museum dedicated to the Portuguese rule in India - some kind of audio-visual aid in the museum would have been very good, to imagine the royal history of the place. All the articles are very well preserved. St. Francis Xavier church is splendid (specially the entrance) with all the old royal splendour and traditional gothic architecture of Portugal in full display. The inside of the church have however been done a great disservice with the government painting it completely in white, compared to all the old golden frescos that adorned the ceilings and walls of the churches. St. Theresa church still has some of those frescos from the bygone era, well preserved as they were 500 years ago. And they are magnificent with the lofty arches and grandeur completely coming to the fore.
Just a short visit to old Goa.Really liked the culture . not very much interested in sea food had a veg stuff at Ratna sagar opp to St Francis Church. good one . nice architucture
Amazing place that gives you the feeling of Goa as old colony. Not too big so if you are there early, you could make it half a day trip and still make it to the beach.
if you are heritage lover and want to have good views of very old churches, museum etc it is worth to spent some half a day in this place.better to start early as it shall be sultry during the noon and day except the winter times.
Visited Old Goa on a very wet day in early March. Found the historical churches impressive but the information on them was quite limited, and what there was did little to bring you close to the times and people with which they were associated. Like many such places around the world, once you've seen them there's no reason to return. I think I found the old houses and Government buildings in Panaji more interesting and memorable. And I can't blame the rain for this review, as I also walked around Panaji during it.
This is a slice of the old 'Portuguese' Goa. Not too far from Panjim. Take the road which goes parallel to the Mandovi river. About 20 minutes away. The Mandovi riverside is scenic and simply beautiful. Interesting sight of the barges carrying people and vehicles across the river. Then there are the historical churches including the most famous ones. There is also a museum. Half a day can well be spent at this location, a combination of fascinating history and scenic beauty.
