We went on a Saturday. Arrive early, the beach fills up quickly. The water was crystal clear. We saw a lot of fish, including a parrot fish. The parking was a bit steep. $18 but there is a lot of parking and the beach is very clean with picnic areas and restrooms. A fun place to spend with the family. Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is right across the street. You can read more about our trip on our travel blog.
Nice relaxing place to enjoy - alone or with company. Alone I like to just have my chair and read my book while watching the day end. With company- a nice BBQ
The Red Reef is a nice park if you want to play with the kids, do a picnic or spend time with friends meanwhile kids have fun. There are planty of space to play and for the toddlers a nice "pirate" playground.
Lots to see here! Snorkeling is excellent by the reefs right here @ this site! Plenty of parking for visitors etc. Nice tables for picnics etc,
I have lived in Boca majority of my life and this beach use to be the best fishing spot early in the morning before the lifeguard went on duty. There also use to be three big reef's along with a small red edged reef for snorkeling. Due to the recent storms and erosion, the three big reef's have been since covered up and now only a little reef and small patch of rocks stand. Still a o.k. area for beginner snorkelers but not a place to really fish anymore.
Clean and well maintained beach, picnic area, rest rooms, with fishing and snorkeling at shoreline. I'm a resident with beach sticker so I can afford it. For visitors, I feel it's too costly. but that's the way it's going I'm much of our country.
Red Reef was beautiful but you would have to be a really strong swimmer to snorkel around it without getting dragged across the rocks. Not for children. Beach was full of broken pieces of the reef. Very nice bathrooms and shower. We parked across the street for $2 an hour.
The snorkeling area at Red Reef Park is not one of the best due to the rip currents which are present and unpredictable even on relatively calm days. I was a City Lifeguard here for many years before and after the creation of the snorkeling area at this park. The beach was originally quite narrow with a series of rock shelves and patch reefs directly offshore with prolific amounts of marine life such as octopus, Florida Lobster and Moray Eels to mention only a few. Unfortunately, the natural rocky environment became the impetus for the City of Boca Raton to perform a series of beach renourishment (dredging) projects over the last 2 decades. There was large public outcry over the dredging project from mostly local residents who did not want these outcroppings covered. The dredging project went forth eventually and the beach became completely sand covered except for an area where the city placed small boulders which now form the present snorkeling "reef". Small portions of the original Red Reef (a rock shelf with patches of orange areas which are actually a type of sponge) are still visible but do not compare with the natural setting which was years ago destroyed by the dredging. The boulders now catch sand which in turn have created rip currents on even the calmest days. Fortunately there is a lifeguard tower there to assist bathers during the hours between 9 an and 5 pm. I would advise anyone considering entering the water at this location to speak first to the lifeguard on duty and ask and follow their advice on whether it is safe to swim. The conditions can change quite quickly however, during changes in tidal and wave/wind conditions. In my opinion, the entry fee for the park is inflated as is the hype on the quality of this snorkeling area. A nicer and more natural area is about 1.2 miles north of Red Reef Park just north of Spanish River Blvd..It is directly offshore and best viewed on a calm ocean day and at a high tide. Locally known as Jap Rock it is at the extreme northern end of the city limits and therefore never affected by the dredging. Along with my previous advice, please be sure to check in with the lifeguards at Spanish River Blvd as a safety measure beforehand.
This is a municipal 9 hole golf course that goes on both sides of A1A. It's right on the ocean, and very scenic. Also an executive course, not too difficult.
Just ok. Expensive to get in for one rock in the ocean. The reef is decent. I saw a small shark, turtle and barracuda while snorkeling.
