The grounds are beautiful. A trip to Abacela must be included if you are traveling in Southern Oregon. The people are hospitable, and the wine is wonderful. Make sure that you try the tempranillo and ask how it trekked to Oregon from Spain!
We've enjoyed Abacela wines for quite some time, so we looked forward to a chance to see the winery. All I can say about the experience is "WOW". The driveway winds through the vineyards and then brings you to a beautiful tasting room which was clearly designed to make the most of the spectacular setting. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine is delicious. I kept waiting for them to pour something I didn't like.....still waiting.... What a fantastic lineup of delicious wine. My husband and I live in Oregon and are wine enthusiasts. This winery stacks up against any of the best in the Willamette Valley or any I have visited in Cali.
This winery received the award for Best Winery in Oregon for the year 2013 and I would bet they get it for 2014 also. Wonderful experience of smell and taste. If you like wine at all, you will LOVE their wine.
The wines here are amazing. Sad that you do not see them in our local market in Scottsdale. The tasting room is clean and modern. The staff is helpful and attentive to everybody. I came during the week and I had the run of the place. My favorite wines were the Syrah, Malbec and Tempranillo. The prices were quite reasonable and I stocked up on these great values. We were poured the Syrah recently and there were many accolades were given and nobody knew it was from Oregon - everybody thought it was a European wine. The patio area is stunning and views were great too. This was a second visit and I if you're traveling through Roseburg and I love wine this is a must stop.
My first impression on this typical rainy Oregon winter day: The vineyards are beautiful ! The rows of grapes are held in place with precision - the grass between the rows is manicured. Then, I entered the Tasting Room - a very comfortable room with a warm feeling. Two friendly employees helped me to understand the history of Abacela (derived from a Spanish word meaning "to plant / grow"), the varieties of grapes grown, and the State of Oregon "Wine of the Year in 2013". This part of Oregon has an excellent climate (hot and dry summer months into October) and soil for growing grapes ! I had thought that Oregon was only famous for Pinot Noir, and was surprised to find Tempranillo and Sharah !
We've been to Abacela winery countless times and it always strikes me how unfriendlythe staff is. Of course there is always the exception. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the wine is divine. Try a smile every now and then folks.
Also get homemade pizza several nights a week. Winery is producing some really wonderful wines. Recommended by a sommelier at a restaurant in Ashland, we first stopped on a whim. Have since stopped a second time and purchased several cases of various wines including Tempranio which are quite good. Also enjoyed pizza night sitting outside the tasting room located on the top of a hill in the vineyard. Quiet and great views. Good stopping point between San Francisco and our home in Washington.
We tasted a variety of Abacela wines and found them unique in character and taste. We purchased a case following a five-set tasting. The staff were well-versed in their stock and were warm and friendly. Recommend you purchase a snack of their meats and cheeses to accompany your wine experience. My favorites were the Ports -- both Tawny and Estate.
This is beautiful vineyard. The tasting room is stunning and the views are gorgeous. Love the wines ..High end Reserve Tempranille is a must..We added this to our collection along with a couple Syrah . Have been a fan of Abacela but visiting the vineyard is a real treat.
Everything about this winery is first rate. Its product, the view, the vineyard is spectacular. I have seen this winery grow ten fold and its wine is getting better every year.
