We were very excited about going to Cala Violina, after hearing so many positive comments from locals. The beach itself is very picturesque, set in a small cove, with lovely views. However, it is incredibly overcrowded in August. After paying 6 Euros to park, we trekked through the woods on a 30 minute hike, carrying beach gear, children and a picnic, in heat of 35 degrees. Unfortunately, there was scarcely a postage-sized space of beach for us to sit on, so crowded was it. Fortunately for us, a huge thunder storm cleared half the beach; too tired to walk back to the car, we were drenched but outlasted the storm, and managed to enjoy the rest of the afternoon in relative peace, with the children enjoying splashing in the crystal clear sea. A nice day in the end, but mainly due to the storm driving half the people away. The rest of the week, we opted for the long beach at Castiglione della Pescaia. No doubt Cala Violina is lovely outside peak season, but personally I did not feel it worth the effort in high summer.
As local, Ihave been there already few time. Today (Sept 04 2013) we were warned at the entrance gate that the beach and the access road are infested by bee and other flyes called Tafani (search google for pictures and dangers). We decided not to go as the beach is a long way walking to the car park to avoid any problems.Pity, the place is lovely and one of the best beach in Toscany.
Crystalline sea water, lost in the middle of a reserve, amazing sea surrounded by nature. Deserved everything, the limited parking slot, the 1.5km walk, the worst food camper ever… But the place is amazing!
Our visit to this gorgeous beach was memorable. It was a lovely walk from the car park to the beach through bushland. The signage along the way directing us to the beach was easy to follow and the path easy to walk on. Our 1/2 hour effort was rewarded with the most pristine beach with crystal clear water- I didn't want to leave. Perfect for distance swimming. You'll love it.
Do not step out the trail! Or you'll get lost, as we were :). Especially during hot summer time weather :-) Sea was wonderful and perfectly clean, the beach not large but nice. Worth walking as the only way to get there.
Sicuramente sarà un posto fantastico, ma il fatto che devo scarpinare in salita e discesa per un tempo a me infinito , pagare il parcheggio mi Ha fatto desistere da andarci, considerando anche i piccoli che erano con me
Super beach. Pro and also con is the limited number of visitors. Therefore you have to be early about 10 o clock. Long(1/2 hr) but very nice walk. You will be awarded with a "paradise beach". Make a walk climb to the left off the laguna and you will see turquoise blue water and a beautiful Laguna. Climb the rocks to the right of the laguna up to the end tip off the laguna; here you have a beautiful view on Puntone and Follonica in the background. When you are close by a visit is a must...!!!
If u want to stay away from the typical sea side place and you like a nice walk, then you should try this one out. After 15min walk in a nice enviroment you will fid yourself in a very nice beach with blue water. If you find yourself in Tuscany ( not in August!!!! Too many peole) during summer you should go and check.
had always heard about the beauty of the spot but the visit now in march took place in a season which is not for beach. however the walk and the views are stunning , not to be misses
