My daughters and I went to look around, we weren't overly excited about our experience. We thought the prices were expensive but were able to taste some samples. The chocolate was good and you can watch them make the candy as well. We had the ice cream with a toppings bar, which you can put as many toppings as you desire. Just under $11 for two ice creams, each had 1 1/2 scoops..can honestly say to go just to say you have been there.
Candy and a mansion. How can you go wrong? They have a very yummy sundae bar and cool events like Santa, the Easter Bunny, and classic car nights.
A peice of history survives desite the buyout of Heberts several years ago. The interior architecture of this former mansion is beautiful. The chocolate quality is excellent and the selection is very good, albeit a bit pricey. They also have an ice cream shop that is very good.
Hebert's has been around as long as I have. Unfortunately they are not aging as gracefully as I am. Seems the chocolate used to be creamier than it is now. As a chocolate gourmet, the difference is quite evident and perhaps due to short cuts and lower quality ingredients. It is by no means the worse chocolate available so for those less picky as I, it is adequate. The mansion is impressive and you can see the kitchen and watch production. There are many unique items for gift-giving so the ride would not be for nothing. Throughout the summer there is a small car show on Thursday nights. Again, not a major event but something to do on a nice summer evening.
This candy mansion has been a Shrewsbury icon since the early 1900's. It is a neat, well kept establishment stuffed with any sort of chocolate and candy products you could possibly want. Many of the products are made on site. They also have an ice cream sundae bar with a vast array of toppings and many delicious flavors. The smell alone when you walk through the door is just amazing. We took our Girl Scout Troop to the Mansion's Candy Camp. For $9.99 each, the girls made two chocolate creations and were able to go through the ice cream bar. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. They were very patient with the girls, helping them make their candy and answering all their questions. They also have events during April vacation for the kids. But you don't have to be a kid to enjoy this very special place. It's a Candy Mansion!
This used to be THE place to go for any holiday candy. Not so anymore. They have the classics still but very expensive. The ice cream bar is eh; expensive and doesn't even have any Hebert's candy available for toppings. For the place that invented white chocolate (and still has the best of this) the old Mr. Hebert is probably rolling in his grave. How sad when the economy kills childhood memories.
Good chocolates of high quality. Friendly and helpful staff. Free samples offered. The Candy Mansion has been in business a long time and is a favorite of the locals. Nicely done up gift packages to choose from.
The variety of candy is nothing like the original owners had and the prices are quite high but still go there for the candy as hate to break tradition.
We were up in Rutland, MA visiting friends and took a trip over to the Candy Mansion. Decent deals on candy which was delicious but even better was the ice cream bar they have. Worth it to try out and we had some good ice cream with all the toppings we could want. Pices are reasonable. We were there over a holiday weekend and the factory was not running but would go back to see that next time we are in the area.
If you have a chance, or are driving by, this is a neat little place to stop. They are in the middle of remodeling right now, so a few of the areas are closed off. They sell many different types of chocolate, including gift boxes of varying size. There is a little ice cream shop in the back with an extensive toppings bar; they also sell a few other types of gifts, such as stuffed animals. The chocolate itself is above average. If you have a sweet tooth, don't miss out!
