Rimrock Overlook offers a scenic view of the Kinzua Bay. The best time to visit is at sundown as the effects of the sun is quite spectacular at that time. There are stairs that go down at the foot of the rock and a path leads all the way to the river. Quite a nice trip to undertake!
The overlook has such a beautiful view! Nice place to take your family. If you are taking a trip in the fall, this is a beautiful spot when the leaves are changing.
We stopped off here after visiting Kinzua Dam and Jakes Rock. Great views and beautiful colours .Walking down between the huge rocks is tricky and not for the elderly or those with walking difficulties. Worth a visit if you are heading to Kinzua bridge or similar attractions in the area.
Great place to explore and see all the different rock formations. Had a great time hiking around. Would go back again.
I live in Kane and have been to Rimrock and Jakes rock on many a fine summers day. there are huge rocks an old stone stairwell cracks and crevasses to explore. and yes a great view. the local forestry station has maps of the area that they will give you and more information about other area sites. they are located at the intersection of State Route 321 & route 59 also there are many such sites in this area to see. It really is a beautiful place to visit in the summer as their are several camp sites in the area and boat launches. if you are into camping it really nice. and like I said the local forestry station is very helpful. you can contact them at this phone number for even more info. Phone: 814-362-4613 the area is beautiful in the fall to but it gets a bit cold at night then. mid June is the best time weather wise normally.
We loved walking around Rimrock. There are lots of steps but it is worth it. Definitely walk down the steps through the rocks to the bottom. There is a natural " air conditioner" coming from between two massive rocks at the bottom. The only downside that we saw was that many people had thrown glass bottles to the bottom and they had shattered leaving glass everywhere. Wear good shoes.
Info doesn't do this area justice. Make sure you visit it! Very easy walk and steps to overlook. A bit tougher to walk between and among the boulders which I feel is under appreciated. Neat stepping stones between boulders gets tight at spots. Trail to lake if you wish.
Get place to go to view the Kinzua Dam. Overall one can take a hike or have a picnic during the summer months. The Kinzua Dam area have many spots to just sit and watch the birds. One may just see an eagle in flight.
This is a top-notch place for locals and tourists alike. It's especially gorgeous in summer and fall, and in addition to the views, the old stone steps down through the rocks give a sense of history and craft. When it's warm, the cool air in amongst the rocks is really "a breath of fresh air." More recently, a local volunteer group, Pennsylvania Kinzua Pathways, worked with the local high school and the National Forest to create the pathway down to the reservoir. Take a picnic, gaze at the view, climb around a bit -- enjoy!
Rimrock is very nice. There is a cool very narrow set of rock stairs to the base of the high rocks. There is a trail down to Kinzua Beach but I haven't hiked that yet.
