This temple is quite close to Gerhard so you can see both in one excursion. It is a well-preserved / well-restored pre-Christian temple in a glorious natural setting.
This temple is the last one that remained from the Pagan Armenian times. Inside the temple is very simple but since it is located on the edge of a mountain, it really looks amazing. Do not forget to take some photos in the garden.
We have been to this place with a tour guide which was useful to hear the history of the place and take a round in the place. The temple is old and majestic. There is no much to do there, but the view is beautiful when we went.
A must see if you are close - the temple is in excellent shape (reconstruction). And don't miss the unusual rock formations that line the river below - you won't find anything like it anywhere else.
very nice place in armenia that you must visit.we visited there at 18- 20march. everything was exelent... i love armenians.
First century roman temple in great conditions. In the way back from Gherard and easy to visit in thirty minutes. The landscape is nice too.
The Temple of Garni is a beautiful relic of a time past. It was originally built in the 1st century when the great Roman Empire reached as far as Armenia. However, as you may know, it is actually reconstructed, built newly between 1969 and 1974. Although effort was made during the reconstruction to match what they believe was the original design and use original materials found on the site, the Soviet-era archaeologists used many new materials when they built it. As such, it does not meet guidelines for UNESCO sites and unlike the nearby gorgeous Monastery of Geghard, Garni is not a UNESCO site. But do not let this stop you from visiting, since the Garni Temple is truly a sight to see as it looms over the Garni Gorge. We visited in January, it was very cold, and a light powder of fresh snow covered the ground. It was gorgeous! We had a group of 6 and we used tour guide Gayane Ghazaryan from Armen Tour Company (on Mashtots St) and the total price was 65,000 dram for driver + guide to see Garni and Geghard, so only about 11,000 dram ($23 US) each. I know you can get to Garni and Geghard cheaper by taxi, however Gayane was a stellar guide and was well worth the money for the comfort of the van and the knowledge of the guide. Since we were off-season, there were only two other tourists at Garni when we were there. We practically had the place to ourselves. The air quality around Yerevan is not great during the winter and it was quite hazy in the gorge, but we still had a splendid view. (Higher in elevation, where the Monastery of Geghard sits, you will find clearer air.) I did use the toilet (free) but I would not recommend it since it was a very, very, very dirty and rundown toilet. I suggest you use one of the paid toilets (about 200 dram or $0.40 US) along the road immediately before the Garni Temple where they are likely maintained and cleaned. Geghard Monastery is undoubtedly the premier site if you are traveling east of Yerevan, however, you should absolutely stop at Garni Temple en route to the Monastery!
An excellent place to visit only 40-45 minutes ride from Yerevan. Nice view, old temple. You can make short tour in Garni. Entrance fee is around 2.5 $. You can have lunch there as many places around, and even some hidden home based restaurants, with very affordable prices and real taste of Armenian cuisine. Do to miss it if you are visiting Yerevan for couple of days.
If yoThe Garni, Tempel is from 76 AD in Roman style with baths. The temple itself was built on top of an Urartian temple, and has the same floor dimensions as the temple of Sushi in Erebuni A common feature of sacred structures from oldest times through the Christian era is to orient the structures to the East, that is, to the rising sun.The temple of Garni itself was dedicated to the sun goddess Mythra. Armenians shared Zoroastrian entities with Persia (and by the time of Garni Temple, with the Eastern Roman empire, which had adopted Mythra as a patron goddess), and worshipped fire as an ultimate gift from the gods, an entity in itself.u are going to Armenia you should see this tempel outside Yerevan
This is a renewed temple, but it still looks perfect! It is just about 30 minutes from Erevan. Taxi a taxш шт the city and go there. You will see amazing view. The best there is that the temple made with Greek style - it is very straight and behind this temple you can see mountains, which have just curve lines. Тукеин the temple there is a small market where you can buy some traditional Armenian food and wine.
